of quiet desperation - Piano Solo - PDF Download

of quiet desperation began as a piece for marimba, but as I continued working on it at the piano, it took on a life of its own, so I let it evolve into a piano solo.

The title comes from “Walden”, by Henry David Thoreau, which I had recently finished re-reading, but I didn’t have it in mind when I was writing the piece. It actually became the title after I sent the piece to a former student who listened and said it reminded them of “Walden”. She even wrote a poem based on the piece, which I have included with the piece. After some thinking I decided that the title “of quiet desperation” fit the piece quite well.
